Benjamin D. Laur is an active baritone soloist in stage
productions and song recitals, currently from Bowling Green, OH. He has
recently performed as King Hildebrand in Gilbert & Sullivan’s Princess
Ida and as Aeneas in Purcell's Dido
& Aeneas with the Bowling Green State
University Opera Theatre, Dandini in John Davies’ The Billy Goats
Gruff with the Bowling Green Children’s
Opera Theatre, as bass soloist in Handel’s The Messiah, as Giuseppe in Verdi’s La Traviata with the Toledo Opera and as Hercules in Handel’s Hercules with the Bowling Green State University Opera
Theatre. Other performed roles include Don Giovanni in Mozart’s opera of the
same name, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, and Fred/Petrucchio in Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate. Laur obtained his Bachelor in Music, Voice
Performance at Central Michigan University, where he was the recipient of the
2009 R. Cedric Colness Vocal Award and the 2009 CMU Summer Scholars Award. He
is currently a candidate for the Master in Music Performance, Vocal
Performance, at Bowling Green State University, where he is also a graduate
teaching assistant and private voice instructor. Upcoming engagements include
the role of Baron Cascada in Lehar’s The Merry Widow with the BGSU Opera Theatre.
