Benjamin is an accomplished and versatile church musician,
with leadership experience in both traditional and contemporary worship
settings. His skills include traditional choral conducting and solo
and choral singing. They also include contemporary worship team leading,
singing, and proficiency with acoustic, electric, and bass guitars,
synthesizer, drumkit, and percussion. And breakdancing. Just kidding about the
breakdancing.
As a baritone soloist Benjamin has participated in worship
services and performances with Handel’s Messiah, Fauré’s Requiem, Saint-Saëns’
Oratorio de Noël, Dubois’ Les
sept paroles du Christ, and Vaughan Williams’ Five
Mystical Songs. In 2011 and 2012 he served as
bass/baritone section leader for the First Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir in
Bowling Green, OH. In 2010 and 2011 he operated in the same capacity for the
First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, MI.
In the capacity of music educator and choral director at
Midland Christian School in Midland, MI (2010-2011), Benjamin organized and
conducted multiple choruses in two concerts featuring hymns and traditional
sacred works.
Benjamin also has extensive contemporary worship experience.
In 2009 and 2010 he served as a worship team leader at His House Christian
Church in Mount Pleasant, MI, where he was also a worship team member from 2007
to 2010. From 2003 to 2005 he was a worship team member with the Central
Michigan University chapter of Campus Crusade for Christ in Mount Pleasant, MI.
He was a cofounder and served as band co-leader from 2004 to 2007 with the John
Denley Band, a traveling music ministry team that ministered throughout the
state of Michigan and completed a national tour.
In addition to a cultivated familiarity with a mainstream canon of contemporary worship music literature, including artists such as Tomlin, Redman, Hillsong, Hillsong United, Crowder, etc., Benjamin has also cultivated a love for writing contemporary worship songs.
